TRANSCRIPT: Perception & Persons part 2/2
INTRO:
Welcome to this Mystic Life PODCAST: A podcast that aims to look at the world differently with total responsibility for sight. When we come together, what we’re truly interested in is mind watching. And through a process of taking total responsibility for sight, we experience mind training. The reference that you will hear me use in this podcast is A Course in Miracles, a non-dual pathway of Awakening for the mind.

EPISODE: Perception & Persons part 2/2
One of the things that the word “pattern” has given us, and then at the same time taken away, is the idea that it’s the pattern of a person.
Now, it may seem to show up in the persona, or mask of the seeming character and point of view you’re playing through. Yet, the Forgiveness is really at looking at why it’s being maintained in the mind. Why it keeps playing, what’s
generating it, what’s renewing it again and again like a dynamo keeping it going
almost perpetual motion, it seems.
And how even with having left that bad relationship and started a fresh with a whole new commitment, do we see ourselves making the same mistakes again and again and again?
And the answer is because we’re still looking from a personal point of view.
Only when you withdraw to that greater “vision” to which you’re leaning into with the comforter, with the Holy Spirit in your mind, only that broader perspective on the entire scene and how it’s all working together for good will allow you to release your attachment—which is, you know, the dynamo on the spoke of your bicycle—and start to freewheel without its perpetual motion.
Because what we need to see is we have an investment in this continuing. And even if it’s subconscious, or even if it’s conscious and you’ve risen it to awareness, if you’re still taking personal responsibility for “the patterns” and “problems” of the person, then you’re still in the same error.
And the focus is on correcting the error on the screen from a personal point of view instead of taking the Correction. Accepting it, remember just accepting it, in the mind.
And what is the Correction? “Oh. Oh no. You were coming from guilt and shame there. That’s all. You were being a person. Do you see? You’re just
mistaken in who you are and your Innocence.”
An Acceptance of Forgiveness is accepting your Identity in Christ, and accepting your Innocence.
So if we can be willing for a moment to suspend our disbelief in this True Identity and allow it to show us of ItSelf who we are, we can be very gently taken back into an experience that is already “Ours.”
There’s no sense of attainment in what I’m talking about. There’s no sense of striving, trying harder, doing better, more.
It is very much about a leaning back into a perspective that already exists.
It is already present within you. And it is only the tension and intensity that you are maintaining with your attachment to the persona, and little person on the screen, and the investment that they have, in their world, and playing the part they
like playing, and making it all happen.
Or being the rebel! It is all the same thing. whatever you know—role you think you’re playing or whatever the preference is for the kind of person you think you are—good bad or indifferent. It is the addiction to that persona, and that perspective, that just needs to be questioned.
And first all we need to question is: Do I like how I feel as I look upon this scene? Do I like how I feel?
Because when you’re invested in the character, and the character is doing the character’s thing; It’s out there saving the world; freeing the whales; it’s
in the hospital; t’s bringing the bed pans; it’s taking care of people; it’s out on the battlefield leading the good fight; it’s it’s carrying the peace flag on a march, It doesn’t matter what the role is!
When you are totally absorbed / invested in that, there is a lack of peace.
And what we are really looking for, that we’ve become addicted to in in that
tenacious hold—is a flow state—which you can only truly experience when you’re not “the persona” and you are simply being done through, because there’s no investment in the outcome and form.
And that’s how you can always tell. When you find yourself getting tight, when you find yourself wondering if you can like make it land, if it will come out good, if it’ll be appreciated, if you will be loved because of it. That’s that’s stuck back in the POV of the person again. And that’s why I love the idea of the Zen circle painting where people for years just take the paintbrush in their hands and don’t try to paint a perfect circle. And yet that’s in a way the objective.
But the true objective and the the true goal, a bit like the peace of God, like peace of mind, is to get out of the way of the circle appearing and not claiming any false
responsibility for it appearing or not appearing, for it appearing good or appearing bad, for it appearing wobbly or crumpled or messy, for not attributing guilt to the circle or the circle painter and having no investment in the outcome.
Because when we’re invested in form outcomes, we lose all awareness of the true content, which is the only place there can be an outcome, which is an experience.
And in A Course in Miracles, it says there is only one type of content, and you experience it expressed as: Either Love or a Call for Love. There is nothing else.
And so we want to turn to our right-minded thinking, which no matter what’s happening at least recognizes that everything is a Call for Love and then slowly slips into the very natural state that everything is Love.
And right now it feels like the most valuable thing we could learn with our world watching is to mindatch.
And mind watching in a very simplistic way for those who have never seen or studied a course of miracles is to watch the one you think you are interacting with the seeming world and to find a space in that watching for that love. And if you find hatred to recognize then there’s a call for love in the false responsibility that you feel for that character or all the characters around them for the world of time and space for the animals for the planet for the seas for the sun the moon and the stars.
And when you recognize that and you can feel the tension inside, recognize that then as the cue to turn into mind watching mode, to sink in with the Holy Spirit.
However you experience your Guide in this lifetime, to lean in to Jesus and say,
“I’m afraid, Jesus. Can you help me with the fear?” And Jesus will say, “Let’s look at the conditions that are upholding that fear. Let’s look at the beliefs and desires in the mind that are maintaining that fear. And let’s not minimize that fear by trying to fix it in form, fix the thing we’re afraid of. Let’s look as purely as we can, moment by moment, whatever is truly helpful. A a mixture of magic and miracles is often required.
And magic in A Course in Miracles just means we do something in form. We have a glass of water. We go for a walk, you know, to both of those things perhaps to relieve stress or a cough.
And there’s obviously a slight disqu in the mind if there’s distress. And so
more and more the more encouraged we become that it’s safe to look in this way, and that it’s also optimal to look in this way of—mind watching—before engaging on response activation in the world. It can happen in the briefest of moments because this sense of presence becomes activated within you when that becomes your truest desire.
It waits on welcome. It doesn’t wait on time. And I think that’s just one of the most beautiful teachings of A Course in Miracles. It waits on welcome.
So in any moment if you are at a loss, if you don’t know what to do, if there’s fear coming up, and you have all these ways in which you manage it. You know: What do you do? What’s your trick? I go for a walk. I tap my forehead. By all means do whatever feels truly helpful. And then or while you’re doing this also invite—Welcome—welcome the Comforter to come and look with you on the conditions of fear, those conflicting desires in the mind.
And remember, the only conflict there needs to be is that you have another desire “other” than peace.
And without a singular desire, you cannot have a singular outcome and experience. If you desire peace and not peace, there is going to be conflict.
And so we do not even need to come down on ourselves and go into that very unfruitful of course in miracles trap of feeling guilty for feeling guilty.
Feeling bad for feeling bad. Again, we must step back and with kindness and love watch the little one that we think we are instead of from their POV frowning and struggling and trying harder with our self inquiry.
What self are you inquiring of? Is it one with a loving, kind, generous,
welcoming point of view? Or is it one that is telling you to try harder, do
better, more? Because the spiritual ego can show up as your guide just as easily.
And you will know by the quality of the presence you feel and by your response to it.
And yes, there can be interpolation because we come from a world of expectation and rules and ridicule and domination.
And if we are in the more passive, receptive second place, which is what is required, if you are to truly listen to the one who knows what’s best for all in
all circumstances, you must take the beta position, you must listen.
And so we’re afraid that by being in that what we think of as subjective position, ironically, it’s the opposite of that.
By being in that position, we are going to be subject to another.
But the wonderful thing is that my will and God’s are one.
It’s this one self that we’re listening to. So the trust builds once you start to recognize it’s that one self. That one self purified of all ulterior motives to fix anything in time and space.
That one self, that’s the miracle mind that can just simply guide you beyond
space and time into a state that is your inheritance, is very natural, and will
allow you to seemingly flow through the life you’re living.
And you can see from what I’m describing that without the tension,
without the investment in outcomes, without the belief in right and wrong and yes and no and good and bad. That we could relax back into this state of watching.
This Way of looking upon the world, at a remove.
And sometimes when we share this, people get a little disquieted because they want to know who’s out there taking care of everything, while you take this pause for prayer?
And I would say to you: Who who do you believe does not have access to the Spirit? Who do you believe needs “you” more than they need the Spirit first?
Because when you come into knowing, what as Byron Casey said: God’s job is and
your job is. When you understand what their business is, and your business is, you don’t get confused!
And so the Spirit of course can work through you, but again that is totally dependent on you not trying to have it under conscious control. Miracles cannot be under conscious control. It’s just an effortless feeling of being done through.
You are not concerned about what you’re saying or who you’re saying it to or where you are or what’s unfolding. And you sure don’t have an outcome in mind that you’re trying to work towards!
All outcomes are in experience.
And if you choose peace of mind, the peace of God as your one goal, you will
have a perennial guide to how you are feeling. You’ll be able to align with that true desire, that singular goal and that universal purpose of forgiveness for everything.
This is holy relationship.
This experience of watching the one you thought you were with kindness, generosity, and love while in a profound communion experience with the truth of who you are and being in that experience watching restoring awareness of the kingdom.
And I feel this might be sufficient for now and that perhaps this is a setup to
another episode where we go more into how to use in a practical way seeming relationships in space and time: brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, you know, anyone, cats, dogs. Anyone that appears in your world and how we can best utilize what we are seeing on behalf of what I’ve been describing.
So, I look forward to joining you again for This Mystic Life PODCAST
as we learn to look gently upon ourselves, and upon the seeming world we are perceiving.
Love,
Sarah
