Maybon II

Cont’d…

I’ve acclimatized.

The mind-meld of inner and outer collapsed any resistance to “what is” and suddenly all was ambient and pastorally picture-perfect. My outdoor desk straddled park and farmland in an easy stretch from the shady trees to the wide open field. Blazing came the new pewter colt indistinguishable from the beef cattle at dusk, but brilliant and dazzlingly at dawn as he raced through the paddock.

Eagles streaked the sky as golden and bald they perched together in rare yet singular company.  A common feast preyed upon—enough for everyone.

bacon sizzling, eagles sitting, picnic table with wine and horse.

Maybon ~ the natural thanks-giving season!

Maybon is the true thanksgiving with unusual pairings of abundance and receding. The mind at once accepting and yielding. Thanks-Giving untethered from history describes an opulent gathering and an interior clearing for a grateful rest.

With the light waning it is the inner glow that draws the eye.

To be in the midst of teeming life, with famers bustling by so in-purpose that the activity could not try the peace. Serene and restful like a hammock swinging into the season or falling into a lover’s arms, the world won over. The contemplative rests on words and wings. Soaring still, nestling within.

I cried replete as we curled out of camp, eager to say goodbyes, but they were all gone—and Maybon was nearly over.

~ Maybon September 21st to 29th ~
A name for the autumnal equinox, also known as the Second Harvest Festival, Festival of Dionysus, Wine Harvest, Cornucopia, Feast of Avalon, etc. The first Thanksgiving was held on or near this date, and it is from these early harvest festivals that the modern Thanksgiving feasts developed.

At this time of equal day and night, we give thanks for the harvest that will sustain us through the dark winter months. This is the season for gratitude and for giving back to the Earth; for continuing the cycle by giving freely. [1]
